UNIITE is proud to sponsor a visit by Dr. Anthony Dias, a priest/scholar/activist from Mumbai, India, to St. Cloud, end of March, 2008.

BACKGROUND AND SCHEDULE
Dr. Anthony Dias is a Jesuit priest, professor in a Business School (Xavier
Institute of Management) in Mumbai, India, an attorney with terminal degree in
Law, and director of the Xavier Institute of Social Research and Action. See

He is an environmental and human rights
activist. As such, he will be featured as a special guest in a panel discussion
conducted by Fred de Sam Lazaro, Director of the "Under Told Stories Project" at
St. John's University.
The panel titled "The New Atlantis: Human Rights and Climate Change in the
Developing World" will be conducted by Lazaro on Monday, 3/31, 7 pm, in Basement
Theater AV1 at Alcuin Library, St. John's University. Please visit:

On Sunday, 4/6, 9.45-10.30 am, Fr. Dias will be sharing with the Newman Center
community his experience as a priest, scholar, researcher, professor, and
activist who coordinates Street Plays in Mumbai. Attendance at this
presentation, too, is open to the public and free.
Dr. Dias worked several years in the Sultanate of Oman, which is on the Persian
Gulf, prior to joining the Society of Jesus in the 1980s. He continues to work
for change in quality of life in India with Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists,
Christians, Secular Humanists, and Atheists in urban and rural areas.
Although this is the first time he is visiting the United States to present a
research paper “Eminent Domain, Tribal Displacement and Internal Colonization,”
on 3/27, at an international conference in Memphis, TN, he has already presented
in Melbourne, Australia, some of his scholarly work as an activist.
